About
Us..
Selby
Globe Community Cinema presents a series of contemporary and classic
films, shown as they should be, on the big screen. Films are shown
at the Selby Town Hall venue, currently running four monthly
projects: Monday Night Cinema, Silver Screen
Matinee with lunch included, film for families during school
holidays and Outreach cinema, taking film into rural locations
throughout the Selby District.
In 2011 Selby Globe
Community Cinema won a highly prestigious Duke of York Community
Initiative Award for the development of community spirit, individual
leadership and recognition of excellence.
Selby Globe Community
Cinema was born from a love of film and lack of cinema in the Selby
area that spanned over 30 years. Run entirely by volunteers on a
mission to extend the provision of film in Selby and surrounding
villages, the group has welcomed over 12,000 people through the doors
since their grand opening sell out event: a sing-along screening of
Mamma Mia at the Town Hall in September 2009.
It’s an exciting time
for film and the Selby Globe Community Cinema!
We are all volunteers with one simple
mission – to extend the provision of big screen film presentations in Selby and surrounding
villages.

Selby Globe Featured in
New Community Cinema Promotional Video

Selby Globe Community Cinema
is featured in Cine Yorkshire’s video promoting rural cinema
projects throughout North Yorkshire.
Rural towns and villages are
unlikely to get major cinema chains opening a venue locally, so the
choices are to either travel a long distance – usually by car or bus
(if a service fits in with the screening time) – or wait for the DVD
or Blu-ray.
But now, with the growth of
volunteer led rural cinemas, film fans can enjoy big screen
entertainment closer to home.
